MEAT AND BUTTER.
PROPOSED LINE OF SHIPPING. PALMEESTON N., June 22. At the National Dairy Association' Conference to-day, Mr Forsyth (El* tharu) moved: "That this meeting is of opinion that the time has arrived when the Dominion producers, together with the Government, should have a controlling influence in a fleet for the carriage of produce; that it be a recommendation to the executive to cooperate with the South Island Dairy Association, also wool, meat and other pinducers, to approach the Government with a view to getting financial assistance or legislation providing for a levy on all exports, to provide funds for the- purpose of obtaining an assured reliable shipping service and reasonable freights or establishing an independent shipping line if such should become necessary. The question was keenly debated, some speakers arguing against, what was thought to be the introduction of the principle of an export tax. Eventually the motion was altered to de"vise a scheme being substituted providing for a levy on all exports.
