BOXING.

WIN FOR JIMMY WILDE. American papers to hand by yesterday ’s mail show that it took jimmy I Wilde, of England, the fly we’ght champion of the world, but two minutes and twenty seconds of the first round of a scheduled twelve-round bettie to knock out Bobby Dyson, of Now Bedford, the New England bantamweight champion, on May 1. A few seconds before the kai;t out the British, boxer sent Dysoi to rhe canvas with a sturdy left kook. The latter took his time coming up, taking a count of nine, while Wilde coollystood waiting for him to regain his ¥eet. Wilde immediately attacked, shooting a slashing right to Dyson’s chin and a quick loft hook to the body. Dyson went through the ropes and was counted out. Mrs Wilde sat at the ringside. Jimmy i kissed her just before he stepped into the ring. When the battle was over he turned at once to her and waved his hand. j Fifteen thousand fans jammed into j Cuddy’s Arena for the- contest, which was under the auspices of the Atlas A. A. Both boys weighed in at 116 pounds ringside. They- were under weight with their clothes on. Dyson, who is but Ifi years old, usually fights at a few pounds more than this figure, and the weight may have hurt him somewhat. It was generally expected that Dyson, who is a brilliant southpaw boxer*, would give Wilde a vigorous battle. The ending was a tremendous surprise. At the bell, the men stopped to the middle of the ring and Dyson led a right left to Wilde’s body, which was partly blocked. They clinched and Wilde reached Dyson’s face with a, few left jabs. The boys seemed, to be settling down for flic milling when, like a flash, Wilde let go a fierce loft hook to the jaw and Dyson went down. Wilde stopped away and gave him plenty of chance to got set. Then he shot the right and left that counted the New England boy out. Harry Ertle, of New Jersey, was referee. Before, the contest Wilde was given a huge loving cup by the English Social Club of Lawrence., and (Dyson was given a loving cun by admirers.
