SOLDIERS' MEMORIAL.

ANOTHER MEETING TO BE HELD. Another attempt is to be made to enlist the interest of the general public in the question of erecting a fitting memorial to our soldiers who served overseas. At the meeting of the Borough Council last night Cr DavieS'brought up the matter, stating that it had been discussed by the patriotic society, particularly by the returned soldier members, and dissatisfaction had been expressed that nothing had been done. They were not finding- fault with His Worship, who had done his best; but it was the failure of the public to attend meetings called by the Mayor which was the cause of the unsatisfactory position. The speaker hoped His Worship would overlook the neglect in the past, and call another meeting. He would give an undertaking that at least fifteen returned soldiers would be present. The Mayor said all knew what our returned soldiers had done. It was little short of a disgrace that no one attended the meetings he had called. It was very distressing 'that something had not been done in the direction of fittingly commemorating our soldiers' sacrifices ere this, especially so now that it had apparently been left (o the returned men to move in the matter. He would call another meeting and do all he possibly could.
