Yesteulny the opening of fhe hockey season took place on the recreation ground, and judging by the play there promises to be some good games before the end of the season. The ladies’ teams that met were the (‘la Girls and the school. This proved" an e:l:<.y victory for the Old Girls. Who won by four goals to one. However, ihe season is early, the .-2:-Jmol team is showing e.ons>iderable imprcvement,and' if is quite on the cards that they may reverse the order of }'&‘*-fA‘}‘(3:2’lf,' before the season is Hm-ough. The men’s teams were Pakeha. v.
Rovers. This game utn-uc:ed most of the attention of the spectators, and although no brilliant play was shown the teams played good, sound hockey, and the scores, which were ‘two goals each, gave IL good indication of the equal strength of the teams. Lovers of hockey should not miss next Thursday’s games—4 Ladies: IH-uia V. Utiku; Men's: Pakeha V. Rovers. Mesrs Reid and Wilson gave every satisfaction referees. ‘
