L-\l‘r Harding, the republican presidential nominee, is a. newspaper man, and the editor and owner of the Marion Star, Ohio. He has Scotch descent on his i'ather’s side. In 1900 .\[r '.E{ard—ing entered the Senate; in 1904/1906 he was elected Lielx;.-Governor of Ohio. in the Senate he was a nieninozr of the Foreign l.egai'ion:‘ Committee. He \\'as an earnest supporter of President. Wilson’s administration for the prosecution of the War, but later erit.icised him severely to the end of the war. Ml. Jjn-ding‘ advoeateii prompt. peacemaking and some legitimate cooperation among the nations of the \vorl‘<'] which would lessen the danger of war. He opposed the '.l.eague of N:.£'i<)m; without effective resei-various. As soon as Mr Har(ling’s nomination was :,Innr.unc.e(l about two-thirds of the dC.]‘pg{lilGS rose up in hun'l_lreds and climbed chairs. A few women waved damp lizmclkerehiefs in an eflort. to -add a feminine touch to the first. national convention in which they had participated. However, there ti'?r:"‘no frenzy, no hat smrisliing, and no parade worthy of mention.
