Sir \Vilha.m and Lady Birdwood arrived by express this afternoon and were accorded a civic reception in the presence of a large and enthusiastic crowd. The party afterwanh; motored to places of interest in the district, including rhe hospitai and convalescent men, where the general conversed with military -'patien’£s. He was entertained at dinner and 9. smoke concert to« night, and leaves for Queenstown tomorrow.
