A Christchurch jury awarded £756 10/10 damages and costs in a claim made by Louis {Henry Maddison, of Scargill, sheep-farmer, against, Archibald Earshmann, of Hurunui, she'epfarmer, to recover the sum of £1076 19/6 damages caused by a fire on defendant’s property spreading lo property owned by plaintiff.
Two very important ‘deals in pro-per-‘ties were transacted during last week. Mr P. A. McHardy’s Wellknown property, “Baeulieul.” totalling 150 acres, has been purchased by Mr E. R. Saunders at £2OO per acre, the total purchase money being £30,000, and Mr R. S. Ab.raham’s beautiful residential property at Fitzherbert, Hm area being about 36 acres, and the sum paid about £10,500.
A decision to forward a. resolution embodying a request [that an endeavour should be made to secure the services of Dr J. A. Gilruth as bacteriologist for the Dominion was agreed upon at the meeting of the Auckland Farmers’ Union executive on Tuesday evening. Several speakers referred in eulogistie terms ‘to Dr Gilii-uth’s work on behalf of farmers in the Dominion when he was previously in the service of the Department of Agrieultmje. _

So great is the southern apple crop this year that in many places the trees are almost unable to stand up benez',i:.h the great weight. of fruit (says the Marlborough Express). There will be ne:u'l_V 100,000 cases of apples for export, and then plenty left for home use. The crops are good almost. everywhere in the Dominion. So far as export goes shipping will be the difiiculty, and if any are exported probably they will go to England.
