HINCKLER’S GREAT FEAT.
AN UNPARALLELED FEAT.
AUSTRALIA SHOULD BE PROUD OF HIM.
I _ LONDON, June 9. I Hinckler used twenty gallons of petrol during his flight. from London to Turin. His engine is the most distinguished in the history of any new engine. According to Charles Grey, an aviator authority, it was used by Captain l-~lanllnersly in the aerial Derby race in 1919, and by many early aviators. , Replying to zt suggestion that the climbing of the Alps was a tough propcsition for such a small craft, Hinckler said that When he reached there he would have only a Couple of gallons of petrol, and the machine's‘ ceiling would be better than anything; the old Alps could put against her. Hinckler did not receive any financial I assistance. Gl'€)"adds that Australia should be proud of this wonderful‘ pilot. E Describing the passage ct‘ the Alps; in a letter to his wife, Hinckler says: ‘ “As I gained the altitude I could see; nasty black peaks poking through. It. was a heavy task for the poor machine, though when up to 10,000 feet I had to lift her over one or two of the highest peaksz”
