FOOTBALL.
At the meeting of the Wanganui Rugby UnQ on Monday the question of getting fub-union teams into Wanganui was_discussed at length, and the committee decided to invite the Sub-Unions of Rangitikei, Taihape and Ruapehu to select a representative team from these three Sub-Unions and to send them into Wanganui to play the local representatives, all expenses to be borne by the Wanganui Union. Saturday, June 26, was‘ the date suggested for this fixture. Considerable interest is being taken in the representative match between Rangitikei anti Horowhenua at Marten on Saturday next. When Horowhenua visited Marten last. season an exciting contest resulted in a victory for Horowhenua. by two points, the vistors scoring the one '-try just on the call of time. The Rangitikei team this year is a fairly representative ‘one, and includes some prominent players, so that a good game can be antieipated. Mr A. Hunt has been selected as referee. Both teams will be entertained at dinner at the White Hart Hotel in the evening. This is what the Pntea. Press; gayg about Rugby football. as.pla_v(-d in New Zealand: “Let anyone who watches football. that is. club football. in this country. week in and week
out, say what sort of game is witnessed. How much passing is seen, how much scientific dribbling on the part of. the forwards‘? If the ‘truth were to’be told the average game would best be described {ls a. scramble from beginning to end without any redeeming feafure whn’r.<onvor.”
