GOOD "WORK AT VVAVERLEY.

The North Island Championship Meeting was continued 01: Mr. J. New--lan'd’s Bank Head, Waverley, on Thurs-él-ay and Friday, when the Short Head and Huntaway competitions were -got off. The weather confinued perfect; in fact, HlO whole four days during which the, trials were held were more ‘like suxnxfier than Winter.

SHORT HEAD AND YAR-DING‘

This event, for which the large field

of 5-1: dogs turned out, occupied Thursday and Friday‘ morning. The work throughout was first-class, particularly - at the yards, and some very fine performances werc put up. When 511dg' ing ceased on Thursday night, it was considered almost certain that lthe championship, as in the Long Head, would go to Mr Hal'ry‘Little’s clever dog Jack, who put .a sterling run, getting within four points of the possible. A surprise, however, was in store yesterday morning, as the noted Dunnevirke competitor, A. F. McKenzie, Worked in such excellent accord with his brilliant bitch, Bonny Jean, that an almost faultless performance was the result, warm applause following; the conclusion of Bonny Jean"s finish-l ed exhibition. Other good perfbrniers were S. Voyce’s Trim, J. R. Corrigan’s Marvel, C. S. Hay’s XVilliam Wallace, A. E. Burnett’s Bell. and NV. Mclntyre ’s Chief. When the numbers went up it. was found that the judge (Mr A. MeGlashan) had placed Bonny Jean first,‘ with one point; ahead of Jack. This point was gained in heading, the "other points scored by both dogs being identical. Trim ‘icame third with 51 points, and Marvel fourth with one point less. .
