FIXING SHIELD MATCHES.

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day

A meeting of the New Zealand Hockey Association agreed to play shield matches against Auckland in the following order: Nelson, Hawke’s Bay, Manawtu, Wangaui, and Canterbury, and write to Auckland and Nelson, suggesting the first match be played not later than July 3. Challenges were received from Thames and Poverty Bay against Waikato, who hold the NOl-den Cup, were fixed in that order, the first match to be played on July 10. Wtih respect to referees in shield matches it was decided to endeavour to make appointments through the New Zealand Referees’ Association, also to write to afiiliated Asso~ ciations and the Referees’ Association, asking for no list of referees competent to control the shield or Norden Cup matches, and who are prepared to act outside their own district.
