“BULLETIN” ATTACK i«‘EA'l‘Uß.E.l'.*. LONDON, May 24. The “Daily Herald” (London Labor daily) features the attack by “StafL’ Batman” in the Sydney “Bulletin" 01:. Field~Marshal Earl Haig in connection iwith the death sentence. ‘ “Staff Batman,” in the article relferred to said, inter alia:——-“It pained jHaig not to ‘be able to shoot Australians on active service. He gave one the impression that he thought we were the kind ofubirds who might L 0 be shot frequently, but We were never quite sure Whether he hated us on gen-. eral principles, or merely despised us for our alleged lack of discipline. Of all British ofiicers of high rank. he was about the only one who "never came; near us. _ When we first went to France we used to have particulars of British army executions read to us on: ;parade by Haig’s general orders; It: i did not interest us in the least to knww that they were .shooting British and ‘Canadian ‘soldiers pretty well every ~morning, since capital punishment in the field did not apply‘ to Australians. That sort of thing didnit put the windup on Australians; it merely filled lhem with disgust a.nd loathing. When Haig noticed this effect he knocked 0'1’: having these harrowing details of executions‘ read to us.” '
