IMPERIAL GOVERNMENT ASKED TO EXTEND COMMANDEER. ' DUNEDIN, June 4. 2 At the annual conference of the ‘otago Farmers’ Union, Mr. James Begg gave a resume -of the conference held in Wellington last week on the subject of the meat commandeer, at which he was a. delegate, The presirient of the Union (Mr. John Christie) suggested that the Home Government might be asked to extend the connnandeer for at least ione month so far as the South Island was concerned, Because the South Is~ iland Was, through climatic differences, to. month or two later than the North. Messrs Begg and O. Orbell ex~ pl‘e.<sed the opinion that the Home Governmeut’s decision not to extend the commandeer was absolutely final, After further discussion, 2). resolution was carried that the Minister of Agriculture be asked to cable an appeal to the Home Government requesting extension of the commandtzer by one month, and that the Homed Government be asked to pay the cost of the storage of meat at Home till pro-’ ducers have had an opportunity of placing their meat upon the market.
