At to--day's meeting of the Canterbury Ltmd Board, an important discus’sion tool: place in respect of tl'a.nsf;er:~' of Crown leases carrying a. large goodwill when the transferor had only held the lease for a comparatively short period. Instances were referred to in which lessees who had only held their ‘leases for less than one year had applied for transfers. In one case an increased goodwill of over £3OOO was shown. The applicant had got a transfer from ‘the ])re\'iouS lessee last; year, the goodwill paid being £3200. He was now asking £6700 as goodwill_ The Board -decided that it was contrary to the policy of the Crown to allow trafficking in such leases, and in future ("he Board would not consider appliczition for transfers unless the npplican-1 had held the lease for at least“ two _\'ear.<. except Where very special C‘ll‘Cll_lllSl'anCC‘S could be shown.
