A BOROUGH MATTER.

(To The Editor.) Sir. —In a recent Teport of the Borough Council meeting I noticed that Cr. Timbs applied for and was granted leave of absence for six months to enable him to visit England. In fairness to the ratepayers represented by Cr. Timbs, I think that he would have considered their interests more by resigning than by applying for leave of absence. A precedent in similar circumstances was set by Cr. O'Callaghan ■who resigned from the Rangitikei COTfrity Council in order that the ratepayers should not be penalised by his absence, and one would think that euch a precedent is worthy of emulation. It does not appear to me to be <Just that any man should, thus practically commandeer a position to the "detriment of the interests which someone', else could quite easily represent' Huring his absence,—l am, etc., RATEPAYER.
