PROPOSED FREEZING WORIXS AT RAETIHI.
ERECTION OF WORKS FAVOURED COMMITTEE ELECTED. A largo meeting of fanners was held’ at Ractilii on Friday afternoon to discuss the proposal to erect freezing works in (he district. Mr. T, A. Harris was elected chairman. Mr. Gordon (chairman of the Taihape freezing works) and Air. Fanning (director of the same company) .-were ! among those present. The convenors of the meeting supplied information - regarding the cost of ..erecting • worksand the running of same. Mr. Gordon advised those present not to erect works of their own, but to put in extra money to the Taihape concern and make one big company. Several farmers thought the time was not - opportune to establish . works, while others wore ready and willing to give financial and other support immediately. % ; - Mr; D. D McLean agreed with Mr.’ Gordon as to giving the Taihape works' further assistance, and moved the fol- ; lowing resolution: "That this meeting is of opinion that the time for erecting freezing works is not yet opportune, c-d drt l'he farmers of the district give additional support to the Taihape works.” This was seconded by Mr. W. Pirie.
The following ame minion t was proposed by Mr. K. C. Guthrie and seconded by H. Harris: 4 * That a committee ho appointed (o go into Hie matter, and that it is the opinion of this meoto ing that the time is opportune for eroding works in this district, providing sufficient capital and stock are subscribed to justify the erection.'” The amendment was .carried by a large majority and the following committee was elected: Messrs. T. A. Harris (chairman), D. D. McLean. C. B. Solly, H. Harris. A. Harris. P. C. Murray. J. Punch. H. Cummings. \V. G. j .Short, K. Auburn, H. Wright. T. | Brown. E. R. Beckett. A. W, Ashwell. j E. A.
