HIGH‘ COMMISSIONER ‘S CABLE
WELLINGTON, May 18
The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, ‘dated May 15th, from the High Commissioner for New Zealaxrl in London:—- .
E 'Meat—From the 17th of May the following wholesale prices have been fixed for New Zenland ~m:xtlon:— Mutton: Cut ewes, 7d. per Ib.; uncut ewes, Bd. per lb; cut wethers and tegs, Bd. per Ib.; uncut wethers and tegs, 9d. per lb. Australian, éd 3. lb. less, except for uncut Wethers and tegs, which remain at 9d. Lamb: No change in price, 1/1; retail prices free from control. .
Butter.——The average price for English butter is 3/2; lb; Irish Creamery £l6/16/ per cwt; factory, £ls per cwt_ -' ‘
The Ministry for Food announces that in view of the lower price and the increasing supplies, wrationiilg will be abolished on 30th May, but the present maximum wholesale and retail fixed prices for Government controlled butter will remain in force.
Hemp.——The Manila. market is quiet and prices are slightly weaker, but at the close moderate business was done at a decline. Present quotations for J grade are: Janual'y—i\larch "shipments £66; February‘~—'Apl-i1 and March—-May shipments £65; sellers; April-—June to July—Septenlbel- shipments sold at £65 The New Zealand market is inactive and easier Sellers closing quotations we:-e:—High point, Sppt £59, Februai-y——April shipment, £54 and £52 respectively Hone)-*——N7o change to report.
