INCIDIENTS OF PRINCE’S TOUR.
NEARLY RUN OVER
CHRISTCHURCH, May 18.
XV-hen the Prince of Wales returned to the city from the Roya.l race meeting on Saturday he paid an informal visit to the Canterbury Club, accompainied by Admiral Halsey. 'l.‘h<.-y left the club on foot at 6.15 pm. Crossing- the Worcester Street bridge and Oxford Terrace the Prince was very nearly run down by a motor-car, the occupants of which, recognising the Prince, stopped immediately. The men in the car had evidently looked upon the good red wine and were at that stage when social values had become slightly vague, “Hullo, Ted! Cheero, Teddy!” they called in unison, and the Prince, who "did not appear to mind their familiarity, bowed his acknowledgments. A little incident illustrative of the Prince's courtesy occurred at Riccarton on Saturday. He was walking with friends, but detached himself for a few moments to visit the totalisator. On his Way he passed close to a lady who was carrying a child in her arms. it The child had a- racing programme in its hands, and as the Prince passed the little booklet. fell to the ground. The Prince stopped, picked up the programme, and courteously returned it to the mother before passing on. He received her thanks, but she was evidently in ignorance that it was the Prince himself who had returned the book. *
