Butter tlistributors in the Dominion expect 2. substantial rise in the price ‘of butter after July 31, when the Iniperiul Government purchase comes to an end. The control retail price today is 1/8 per lb, for first grade butter. or 1/5 at the factory door. But on the basis of the current British rctail price of 3/, it. is expected that by August. Ist New Zealand butter will be worth fully 2/3 per lb for export, and this will make it worth all 2/6 per lb retail for local consumption, a. rise of 10d per lb 011 the present. controlled price in New Zealand.

‘Shipping and Commerce of Australia” has EL paragraph referring to the fact that for the first time regular lines of Italian steainers are trading with the Commonwealth. The bulk of the 1:-ade with Italy was formerly ozm-ied bf the Norddeutscher Lloyd line, which is of course now out of the running_ The entry of the LloydTriestino and Lloyd-Sabando into Australian trade is therefore welcome. The Royal Belgian Lloyd is also eatering for ‘Australian trade.
