The match in the Olympia to--day’ Fin which Joe Beckett. knocked out Bombardier Wells in the third round iof their 20-round match for the heavyweight championship of England w_.as in ding-dong contest. Both men looked superbly fit. Wells rushed in and ‘landed a left on his opponent's nose. .Beckett responded with a couple of .left hooks to the point and right to lthe body. Wells forcing the pace, lplayed a left and right to Becket-t’s face. Beckett did not waver. The second hound opened nensationally. Beckett, fighting like a bull sent Wells down with a left to the jaw. Wells, rising after nine seconds, fought sternly, bringing his famous left repeatedly into action_ Beckett, heedless of terrific blows about his face, sent in a hard right. Welln, in the third round, continued to box magnificently against Beckett's mighty rushes. Beckett, impervious to punishment, fought fiercely. Though he frequently missed he land—ed several hefty punches. The men stood up and returned "blow for blow.
