AUCKLAND, May 10.
A meeti.ng_of women convened by the Civic League and civic circle of the ~Wo_men"s' Club was heldto-night: to consider‘ the cost "or living,__ The meeting carried a declaration of protest against the continued high cost of necessaries of life, particularly ’drapery and clothing ~generally;’ and‘ in furtherance of the protest undertook not to buy the follovving articles for a period of six‘ months: crepe de_ chine and georgette under-clothing, irrespective of price; gloves, irrespective of price; stockings costing more than 8/6 per‘ pair; costumes costing more than’lo guineas; hats "costing more than £2 10/, blouses costing more than £2; and boot_s,and’shoes costing more than £2 5/; ' It was resolved to request the man'agers of the Technical College to establish classes in boot repairing. Further -resolutions urged that two women be appointed to the Board of Trade I’.-orthwith; that the ‘names of those found guilty by the Board of Trade Anti—Profiteering Tribunal be published an'd the offenders punished; also that the Government take steps to secure for the public supplies of woollen goods at a reasonable price, so reducing the enormous difference between the price paid to farmers for wool and the price for manufactured goods. The undertaking not to purchase goods was signed by albout sixty women in a few minutes.
