DISQUIETING NEWS FROM BAKU
LONDON, May 1.
The Australian Press learns that there is no ofiicial confirmation of Moscowflx. claim that a. Communist Government has been established at Baku and proposed a military alliance with the Soviet Government, but recent news from Baku indicated very unsettled conditions. It seems likely that the Government of the new republic of Azerbaidjan, in which Baku is situated, has proved too weak to control the revolutionary elements. The situation is complicated owing to bitter fighting ‘between Tartars and Armenians. During the 'past two months several lynehings and assassinations have taken place, culminating in the murder of 400. Armenians at. Marabagh. The Armenians retaliated. They ‘ marched on Marabagh in strength and kidiulpped the Tartar Governor} as a hostage, but an‘armistice was -arranged a fortnight ago.
