PROPOSED FREEZING WORKS.

D. Scarrow presided over about 20 farmers. Mr Harris said t.ha.t before doing anything in the matter of 'sh:lrellolders in Otuihape increasing their shares, the question df erecting works of our own should be considered. At the present time we could tap 1,000,000 acres, and only half of‘. this was producing. At the some time -100,000 sheep were sent away from Raetihi during the year, and the speaker claimed that in a couple of years this could be doubled. Mr P.IC. Murray said there were arguments for and against separating from Otaihape, but if sutficient inducement Was forthcoming he would be only too pleased to.giYe a local concern his astipport. . Messrs D. D. McLean, C. B. Sully, K. C. Guthrie, E. A. Voelkerling, and W. Richardson all spoke in favour of the district having its own works.

A‘fter considerable Hiscrrssion it was decicled. to convéne a public. meeting to be held in Raetihi on Friday, May 2151;, for the purpose of discussing the matter more fully, Messrs P. C. Murray, D. D. McLean, and H. Harris to be conveners, and Mr K. C_ Guthrie was appointed secretary pro tem. Messrs C. B. i-Solly, C. D. Scarrow, K. C. Guthrie, H. Harris, D. D. McLean, P. C. Murray, and VV. -Setll—Smitll were elected a committee to find out the feeling of the settlers -and the support the project would be likely to receive, and also to collect data as to the cost of the Works and the management of freezing works.——-County Call.
