Vi/ho invented the piano? The Germans claim the honour, but there is no doubt (says the Daily Chronicle) that. the piano came originally from Italy. There are in existence still two of the first pianos made by a harpischo-rd maker ChriStofori,~ in Florenée—ea.rly in the eighteenth century. The first public notice of a piano {is in a Covent Garden playbill, and the first use as a solo instrument was at the Tliatched House in June, 1768. England has hadbits full share in the improveinent of what our grandfathers called a fianoforte. The original Broadwood is said to have been the fix-st to adopt pedals to the piano in 1783.
