RETURNED SOLDIERS ’ ASSOCIATION.
. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. At the adjourned -annual meeting‘ of the Taihape and District R.S.A., on Wednesday; the following officebearers were elected:-—President_, Mr L. E. Norriss; v'lce~pre-sident, Mr S. Hamill; treasurer, Mr M. McLaughlin; committee, Messrs P. A. De Loree, FL McSWce.ney, F. Thurston, H. Clark, W. ‘White, B. J. MoDe‘rn'lo'tt, A. V. Harris, J. Corkhilfi, H. J. Clemence, E. T. Hill, J. Smart, and W. P. Thomasen. The following resolution was carried: That this meeting of returned.‘ soldiers protetts against the action of the Government in stopping advances to returned soldiers under the D.‘S.'S. Act, and requests that in future when .a temporary stoppaige is contemplated, due notice should be given to the R.S.A., in accordance with the promise made by the Minister of Lands to.thaf;' efiect. ‘
RETURNED SOLDIERS’ RE-UNION. At the Three Stars Theatre on Wednesday night a reunion of returned soldiers was held, the "éittendance 139-‘ ‘mg in the vicinity of one hundred: Owing to the railway strike, inteiiding visitors from Ohakune_, Raetihi, Rang-ax taua, Man-gaweka, and Ohingafii were not able to attend. .
The chair was occupied by Mr T. E. Norriss, who had no difiiculty in handling the large gathering, and the proCeeds throughout were most orderly. The ‘following toasts Were honoured: “The King,” “The Army and Navy,” “The Nurses,” “Our Allies,” _“The Medical Corps,” “Patriotic Institutions,” “Fallen Comrades,” “The “Ladies,” “The Returned ‘Soldiers’ Association,” “Sports,” “The Chairman,” and “The Press.’ ' Mr ’H. H. Hartley presided at the piano, and the aeconipaniments to the vocal items were played in his usual pleasing style. T Songs were contributed by Messrs O’Connell, Walker, Ba.lla.ntyne, Millson, and a visiting digger; recitations by Messrs O’Connell, Murphy, O’Sullie:ul, Hill; mu sicaltitemsl by Hartley; and >l, \-ieiting digger, the mouth oi-gm sows of the latter being grently appreciated. Another popular item ‘vas that con tribufcd by Mr Hill and his ‘Crick dog.
Th» gathering was a. mmt success-.ful one in every wav, and '-ll present thoroughly veinjoyed themselveis.
