NEWBERRY COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. ' WELLINGTON, This Day. James Newbex-.ry,.chal-ged with attempted murder of Mrs Cooper and her sister, Miss; Skjoth, was committed for trial. _
The» evidence was that -he ‘Was en-. gaged to "Mrs Cooper at one time, but it was broken ofi. During the night of April Bth Newberry got into her house, and assaulted both women with an iron bar.
The medical evidence was that Mrs Cooper was the more seriously injured of the two. Such a weapon was just as likely to kill as to injure. Newberry had been severely Wounded at the front, and had been in hospital practically all the time since he returned.
