MANGAOHO HYDRO-ELECTRIC WORKS.
DISSATISFACTION VVITH PRO-
GRESS.
WELLINGTON, This Day.
The executive of the Conference of‘ Local Bodies on Mangaoho hydroelectric works expresses dissatisfaca. tion with the way the Work is handled, and urges the Government to improve matters. It considers. the wages‘ are too low, and the amount should be 16/ -per day. The accommodation for the men was unsuitable——nothing butf tents, and no fireplaces or drying apparatus, though the weather was frequently Wet and misty. It was useless to expect to keep up sufficient’ labour unless the conditions» of life for the men was satisfacfory, and the executive emphatically states they are not. They apepal to the new Minister for Public Works to take the matter in hand. ‘
