PARIS POLICE PER PLEYED.
LONDON, April 12.
1 A Paris message states that the ‘police are nonplussed by a dual mur. der having similar remarkable feaItures. A Wealthy retired merchant named Des Jardins, living at Vex-sail-les, disappeared‘. A trunk minus the head and legs was recovered from the Seine, and it was believed to be his. The Magistrate allowed the hand to be cut off in order to confront the merchant's Wife and son-in-law, who were suspected of the crime. Both [positivelir identified the hand as that of Des Jardins. On the following day Des Jardinsf unmutiliated corpse was recovered from another part of the river. The first corpse was encased in an American military sleeping bag. It was wearing English ‘under-cloth-ing of a brand used by the British Air Service. AIRMAN CRASHES. Received 11.40 a.m. - ‘ DELHI, April 25. Captain Rauxat, who is flying from Rome to Tokio, arrived at Allahabad, and crashed on landing. The fusilage was broken in half, but the aviator is unhurt. v
TURKISH TREATY.
ITALY EXPRESSES STRONG DI SAPPROVAL.

l COl-1-espondents state that Italy lviews the Turkish Treaty with undisiguised disapproval, due to the fact lthat Greece has been raised to a posi;tion of serious rivalry to Italy as a MMedite_rranean Power. The Treaty gives’ Italy very little except Adalia, Las Grecee gets everything west of the Chatalja Ilries“ except Dedeagatch. Italy ‘considers this Will transfer large bodies of Turks and Bulrgars to Greece and makea future "war inevitalble. Italy also objects to the -"proposal to turn the Turks out of Erzerum and give the tovvn to the Armenians.'Ap~ parently Armenia is to be an inde-‘ pendent state. The League of Nations has no real" mandate, but the League may issue an international loan on Armenia’s behalf to secure the co-operation of I an Allied or neutral State in the development _of_ Ar,-_ menia. » ' SAN REMO, ‘April 25. It is understood Turkish suzerainty over Smyrna will be indicated by the fact that the population is not entitled to send delegates to the Greek Parliament, but at the end‘ of five years _the. local Smyrna Parliament will have the right of voting in favour of ‘union with Greece. In such event .suzerainty will cease. Turkish sovereignty in Europe will be confined to the area Within the Chatalja lines. ‘ SAN‘ REMO CONFERENCE.
AMERICA NOT OFFICIALLY - REPRESENTED, LONDON, April 25. Mr Underwood Johnson, American Ambassador at Rome, has reached San Remo. I-Ie apparently holds :3. Watching brief, but Washington is not 1-epresented at the conference, though the Allies still hope America may be persuaded to assist in the .-\l-menian settlement.
