THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTION.
An old and popular pioneer settler of Taihape, While ‘speaking about the tactics displayed at"the recent nicoting of Householders "held: for the purpose of _elee—ting a new School Conn mittee, paid a,.»-high ‘tribute to Mr Burrell, the late Committee’s Secretary. The old townsman had served on the School Coihmittee and on other local bodies, and it was this opinion, from careful observance, that no Taihape School. Committee had a better or more painstaking and capable secretary than Mr Burrell. The school’s best interests were his first concern and he never spared himself whenever he Could personally accomplish anything forlthe sehool’s benefit. He did not confine his Work to af_.tcn«:ling meetings, taking minutes, writing letters and getting out accounts; he would ‘travel miles at his own expense to assist the school. Our attention was drawn to the fact that he personally added much money to the school eolnmittce’s funds; at one time ‘he went a. great distance to interview a nurseryman and get :1 donation in the shape of ol'n:unonml trees for the h'éa'litifical‘ion of the school grounds, and our infol‘lll=lDt mentioned several other instances of personal servifi that brought. grist to the eolnnlittce’s mill. What Ml’ Burrell did was undoubtedly :1 labour 0? love, and to see the improvement he cfieeted was ample payment for his untiring efforts. Such is the eulogy given to the work and efforts of a conscientious secretary 13.3’ *1 pioneer townsman, but what did 811 this good work avail against the pique of unreasonable" peopl"-‘3 F3o‘ tious spite always did and :Il\va,Ys will furnish its own condemnation.
