A BRILLIANT SCENE.
AUCKLAND, "This Day.
The morning broke dull, with the sun appearing fitfully through 'lowlying clouds, banks of which partially obscured the headlands eastward of the city. As the hours Apassed the sun gained its ascendancy, though not fully dissipating the clouds. The scene on the harbour was animated, the waters being dotted with yachts, motor boats forming two lines out past the North Head, round which at 10‘o’clock the Renown appeared slowly feeling her way into the harbour. She proceeded to 'her anchorage, where the niedical examination was quickly got through, and the vessel bertherl just before noon. Every vantage point on the rising grounds round about "the haribour was occupied by thousands of people, who were able therefrom to obtain a fine View of the whole scene. The foreshore eanrd .s-greets abutlting thereon also held their full quotas of sightseers. As soon as the Governor called on the Prince, the Prime Minister and his Cabinet colleagues paid their respects also_, and the Prince then landed and drove to Government House, where he received an address from the Government at the hands of the Premier. and then returning to -the wharf gates. The Prince was oflicial- - welcomed by the chairinan of the I~larbour Board, and then proceeded to the Town Hall, where he received an address from the Mayor and Councillors on behalf of the citizens.‘ The streets, gaily decorated, were crowded with thousands of cheering people, bands playing patriotic airs, the whom making up one of the most brilliant scenes ever witnessed in Auckland. VVhen the ship rounded the North Head on entering the harbour, the foTts fired a. royal salute, and the yachts also saluted the warship as. she passed through their lines.‘ The grim war lines of the huge batue. cruiser were softened down by her holiday coat of light grey, but 3 re. minder of the fact that the r--liip mayhave sterner business in hand was lent to the scene (by the appearance of an. aeroplane circling overhead. ‘
