THE RAETIHI HOSPITAL.

COMPLAINT OF DELAY.

[ A matter of considerable interest to Raetihi was mentioned at the meeting [of the Wanganui Hospital Board on | Tuesday, when a complaint was made lby Mr Pilkington, concerning .the delay in proceeding with the erection of a cottage hospital at Raetihi. He said that two years ago, when the propo.--"a1 came under consideration the s'etl"E-31'S ! were tom .thzfit if they raised £SOO the Board would see to 2110 rest. The set- ! fie;-5 have done more, they have raised 51000, and given a sit"e”‘that is almost tideal. They? considered they had done their part, and now looked to the authorities ‘to do theirs. They were told the hospital would be erected Within twelve months, now two years have passed, and there are only two men with long-handled shovels shoveliling dirt into a handeart, trying to ‘level the top of the hill; that was all that had been done, -and the settlers were naturally looking for more expedition. The complaint was deferred for further consideration until the Board met at Taihape. ‘ The matter was brought up at the meeting of the Board at Taihape on Wednesday, a letter being received from Mr Harris, of Raetihi, asking that tenders be called for the building as soon as possible, or another season would be lost. Mr Harris enclosed a letter to a newspaper by an anonymous writer, which the Board declined’ to receive. ‘ "Mr Ritchie said he was going to Karioi that night, ‘and would go on to‘ Raetiti, interview Mr Harris, and make "full inquiries if the_ Board thought it desirable. ' The secretary explained that probably some delay was caused by the fact that he received the plans from Raetihi, and expecting a covering letter, put the plans in the safe. Later he learned from Mr Harris thatthis letter was enc-losed withthe plans. It was decided‘ that Mr‘ Ritchie make inquiries into the whole position regarding the hospital, and report.
