I PERIOD EXTENDED. ,_,___.... i It will be remenibered that for reuisons over which the Defence Department had no control, the issue of ‘privilege rail tickets to returned soldiers was gieatly curtailed some months ago, and as :1 consequence. it was decided to extend the period of availability to the first of June 110-“; the Railway Department stip‘.l..:lting‘ that the issue should not exceed 5000 [per month. The position on the 31st March lasblrwas that -appl'OXlll.‘ilL‘i-Civ\" 117,000 tickets had still to" be i.s_sucd,. despite the fact that the actual I’ieket.~:» ‘disposed of averaged in the neigh’bourhood of 3000 per month. it may ‘safely be assumed that the failure to {make full use of the privilege during the holiday months was due to soldiers having resumed their civil occupations and the difliculty they would have in obtaining leave from their employers so soon after the resumption of employment. The Defence Department announces that by special arrangement with the Railway Department privi—lege rail tickets are now to be extended to the 30th of November next, Which is the final date. This means‘ that all orders must be exchanged forrailway tickets not later than the 2nd of November next. Owing to 0t 0, heavy call that will be made upon‘ railways during the visit of the Prfl returned soldiers eligible for the issue of privilege rail tickets are requested" to delay eXeh:«fiT'g'ing their orders until the departure of the l-‘v-in’-':~ freqNew Zealand. » '
