SUNK IN THE SEA.
DESTRUCTION OF MEAT. K ALLEGATION AT HAMILTON. , _._.__... i HAMILTON, April 19 The deliberate destruction of large’ iquantities» of frozen nleat—cal-cases ofi imutton, beef and thousands of rabbits; 3——m New Zealand, by taking them out‘ to sea and sinking them, seems an.’ almost incredible condition of things,’ and if"*true, certainly warrants some official investigation. An assertion to thateffect was made by Major‘ _Why?e, at the annual meeting of the‘ Hamilton branch of the Fa.l-I_llel's_'\’ Union, on Saturday, when he stated thafl he had been informed twice, during: the past week, that large quantities” of frozen mutton, beef, and rabhitstf had been shipped out to sea from cer4 tain freezing Works south of Dunedin‘ and thrown overboard.‘ He had— closely questioned the persons who had mentioned the matter to him, warning’ them of the gravity of their assertions but they persisted that What they had’ said was correct. '
Major Whyte added that, if true. iii was a scandalous and shocking thing, that so much good food should be wilv fully destroyed. Surely it could either have ben sold‘ cheaply or given" away in England or New Zealand. He‘ thought the branch should ‘get into! touch with some ‘°’ of the branches south of Dunedin, and endeavour to‘ secure actual definite information be~' fore moving in any other direction. It was decided to do as suggested.
