We are quite willing‘, if the latest figLll‘es are adopted, to stand by the proposal that wages should be periodically adjusted in accordance with the cost of living, but as the Railway Department lias made it very plain that they will. take the first opportunity of seetiring it reduction in the bonus when the Gorermnent Statisticians figures indicate that it is due, we are determined to see that the plan starts on a fair basis.
