RELEASED ON PAROLE.
INTENSE EXCITEMENT IN STREETS.
LONDON, April 15‘
After a few Sinn Feiners were released the rest fiiscovered-they were ‘required to give their parole to return in six weeks. This they refused, and the releases were stopped. There was an intense excitement in the streets. Th. Lord Mayor of Dublin summond the authorities to decide to release the men without parole. Ninety were taken !to the hospitals through the crowded, silent, streets.
EXTRAORDINARY SCENES OUTSIDE MOUNTJOY PRISON.
LONDON, April 14.
The ,chief demonstration outside lzlounfjoy prison was the angry shaking of Sinn Fein flags in the direction of the prison and shouting Sinn Fein songs. Occasionally a young woman recited the Rosary, and. a thrilling eifect was produced as the heads of the vast crowd were bared in the drizzling rain. Women who a moment earlier had been shrieking fairies, suddenly were seen quietly praying.._, Throughout the day aeroplanes circled overhead, showing that Dublin Castle was determined and ready for any development. The Strike was I'emal'l_{ably complete. Le'f&tel's from England lay untouched on the qunys, «but as the strike was voluntary, no attempt was made against‘ against people who continued work. -
No picture palaces or theah-cs are open, and streets are unlighted. ‘,Downing Street authorities state that Sinn Feiners will not be released unconditionally, but will be on parole for a definite period fox‘ medical treatment. _
A Dublin correspondent stateé that Constable Harry Bell was shot. dead while in plain clothes. .. Sixty-eight hunger-strikers were reloasecl. A 1-iofous crowd at Londonderry attempted to I'escue_a prisoner, .«and «stoned the police.‘ Twelve bayonet ‘charges were no? suflicient to quell the outbreak, and an armoured car was called up.- This "fired 42 rounds," two civilians being shot. ”"
