THE PONSONBY MURDER.
ACCUSED BEFORE THE COURT. AUCKLAND, This Day. ‘At the Police‘ Court Denis Gunn Wés charged with the murder of Augustus Braithwaite and robbery" of the Ponsonby Post Office, on Ma.rch'l3. The Crown Prosecutor, in opening
the case, said it would be shown accused was in the vicinity of the post oflice on the afternoon of the murder; that on -one of the two cash boxes, one of the revolvers found in a vacant section, 100 to 150 yards from Gunnrs residence were finger prints alleged to be from "prisoner's hand, while that revolver would the shown to be one from which was fired the bullet found in deceased’s body. Evidence was given by Mrs"“BraithwaTl'te of the discovery of the body, and by a witness who saw a man he now knew to be Gunn in the vicinity of the post office about 2.30 pm. on the day in question. Later in the day he saw him in the same place between
3 and 4, and another man was with
him, which Witness had since identified as prisoner’s brother Charles. Witness saw prisoner again with the same man about 6 pm. immediately outside the post office. Before witness went home he saw prisoner in the same place alone -On March 26 he saw Charles Gunn amongst about 150 people, and identified him. A lady resident gave evidence that
she saw accuged between 7 and 7.10 pm, on March 13, when she also saw ‘‘‘-and spoke to Braithwaite as be en.l ‘tered the post zoflice. ‘
