INTERCHANGE OF AUSTRALASIAN OFFICERS.
VVITH INDIAN ARMY OFFICERS.
Received 9.15 a.nl. LONDON, April 13
The Australian Press interviewed aihigh c-fiicial in the India Ofiioe, in re» ference to General Birdwood’s sugges-‘ tion for an interchange of Indian and; Australian oflicers, who said it was highly impofianfi there should: be the closest co—operation between the two‘ armies, because in anyivfuture War eastd ward of Euez in which Britain was ind volved, it was inevifable Indian and: Australian armies should fight shoulder to shoulder. It was important they should, as far as possible, understand‘ each other’s customs and methods of‘ warfare. The Indian army was ‘a splendid training grol_lnd'for Australian oflieers, and he hoped the pre-war arrangement of sending’ one New Zea.lander and one ‘Australian to the stat: couege at Quetta would -be resumed and extended. At present an additional six New Zealanders receiving training in the field in India might‘ form the nucleus of’a scheme such as Genefa,].BirdWood' proposed, but 3 de« finite suggestion musi‘ emanate fromAustralia. The‘-authorities are at present considering details of -a proposal to have military missions from the various Allies atteched to Indian headqrla_rte:s.- Australfa should be_isimilarly represented, quite apant from‘.any scheme.'of--inferchange‘ of ofiieefs. ‘'
