PROHIBITION OF PRACTICE.

DRASTIC REGULATIONS.

WELLINGTON, April 9.

Special restrictions on the use of the postal service, the telegraph ser. vice and the telephones for betting purposes are imposed by regulations issued in the Gazette. They afe ‘(Trastic in intention. The foTio‘\¥ing telegrams are prohibited:—— (1) Telegrams in plain la‘ngua.ge relating to betting or to investments on the totalisator or ‘in coded language reasonably supposed to relate to ‘betting 01' to investments‘ -on the totalisator. n

(2) Money orller telegrams addressed to a racing club or to a secretary or other officer, agent, or servant of a racing club relating to investments on the totalisator.

(3) Any money order telegram addressed to any person who has been convicted in a. court of law under the

Gzuning Act, 1908. or any amendment. thereof, of any offence relating to betting 01' to illvestments on the totalisator.

The oflicer in charge of the telegraph office where "the telegram is presented is authorised to determine whether the message infringes any of these regulations.
