A fatality OCClll'l‘Gd on the voyage 01‘ the steamer Cuiiadian Raider, which arrived at Aticklzmd on Saturday. the master ‘of the vessel, Captain R. Winter, disappeai-iiig on March 24, on the trip from Melbourne to Newcastle. He was seen at 6.45 a..m., but when he was called shortly after seven cfclock he could not be .fcund. When his cabin was examined his cloihes were found fliere, and it is evident that he left his Cabin in his pyjamas, xvearing in addition only a ‘blue service coat.
The chief officer, Mr H. \Vatkins, organised a thol'ougll search of the st.eamel-, and as 110 signs were found of the captain the ship was put abcut‘ and steamed back a. mile and a-half. The water was smooth, but nothing was seen of the missing ‘man. The vessel was taken to Newcastle by ‘tie cllir.-3f officer. who is now in commmxd of her.
Captain VVinter, who was 44 years of age. spent his younger days in Allst.raliu,. and during the war served as a lieutenant in -the _Rb')7al Naval Reserve for 3; years.
