MOTOR‘ FALLS 500 FEET.
OCCUPANTS WONDERFUL
ESCAPE.
A sensational motor smash on the Jenolan Caves Road, near Katoomlba, is reported from Sydney, As a car was going up the zigzag it went over the side at one of the curves, fell 500 feet, and was smashed to pieces. There were ‘seven oécupants of the car, and only one reéteived grave injuries, although some of them fell a distance of 200 ft.
The driver of the car, Mr Eric Bell, who was for three years a prisoner in Germany, said that shortly after one o’clock in the morning the? were climbing the steep hill on the second gear and travelling at about eight to ten miles an hour. Without warning something went amiss with the steering gear. ‘He felt it stiffen and jam, and :1 second after the car crashed into a post. Something broke off the side from wheel, which veered towards the depths below, and in a. twinkling‘ they were over. ' The car travelled or bumped down straight for nearly 30ft, when it hit a log and turned turtle.
“I remember no more," said Mr Bell. “When I came to I was lying near the log with my mates scattered further down the hillside. The Ear fell over 500 ft., aim] was smashed to pieces, no two parts being intact. The other occupants fell from 50ft to fully 200 ff. A-=How we all escaped ‘is a miracle.” 5
