l A RECORD YEAR. AUCKLAND, April 6. The amount received by the Government in Customs.‘ revenue, including excise duties. during the financial year ended March 31st was a. record total, for the first .time exceeding £5,000,00b. The Minister for toms (Sir Wm. I-lerrjes) who supplied this information, gtafiél that the exact amount was £5,185,363, or over a. million more than the total of the previous yearn.’ The ordinary Customs ,1-evenue was £4,829,974, or £429,974

totalled £355 378. The estimate was £270,000, 014%‘-$85,378 less than the _sum received. The amount of excise Pbeer duty received during the previous year was £273,334, or £82,-044 less than the past yeaxfs zsum.
