The Egmont Box Company ’s big" bridge at Ohutu, which looks the embodiment of strength, has sustained a, flaw in the strucfu‘re that makes it unsafe for ‘traffic. Fortunlately this defect was discovered in time to avert an accident, but the fact that the bridge is: rendered useless is a big loss -to the company. Locall opinion seems to think that a large hum' will be re‘quired to affect repairs, but expert ‘advice is being taken, The County roads llereabouts are being metalled, and while most. people are grateful for metalled roads, we would be more -thankful! if those responsible for the Work would «do a. it a little more skilfully. The metal] seems to be put on haphazardly, with. the result that motor tyres, etc., suffer severely. Some -of the overseers or roadmen should take a course of lessons in the art of. road-metal-ling‘, or if the Council’s otficials who own a car will only take a drive over ‘the roads in question, he will appreciate the truth of these remarks.
The death of Mr D. Nathan, of Wellington. recalls fhe fact that our factory at Ohutu once belolxgod to the great firm of N:ltlla.n’.<, and if was from them th:lt‘the f:n'mel's purchased the concern.
