APPOINTMENT AS PRODUCE COMMISSIONER URGED.
CHRISTCHURCH, March 24.
At to-day’s’s ‘meeting of the North Canterbury Farmers’ Union the following motion was carriod:—That ‘in view of our Dominion exports of wool, moat, dairy produce, etc.,' it is essential that some provision he made for the safeguarding of the interests of the Dominion producers when the existing contracts with the Imperial Government tcrmin'a.te.' To this end this executive suggests to "the .Dominion Government the ad_\;is_ibility of retaining Sir Thomas Macglgtenzie in the capacity of produce commissioner for '.'\"ow Zealand. being of the opinion that the wide experience gained during many _vo:n's of close connection with our trade and commerce eminent-» I}’ qziaiify him to fill this position. ‘
