The annual meeting of the above was held at Marten on Saturday last, the following delegates being present: Manawatu: Messrs Czfinpbell and Low; Oroua: Mr Ratclitfe; Ruapehu: Messrs Groldsbury and Hall; \Vallg:l- - Messrs de‘ Berry, Hird, and Swinburne. "

Last year’s ofiicers were elected for the ensuing year: President, Mr L. F. (10 Berry; vice-president, Mr D. Low; hon. secretary: Mf’F. C. Campbell (re~ elecitcd).

Delegates, elected at annual meeting of each of the four branches: Messrs Swinburne, Hird, Goldsbury, Hall, Blythe, Richardson, Stansell, and secretaries of Oroua and Manawatu branches.

Reports from the branches all referred to increased interest in matters pertaining to the work of the ins'titution. Wanganui reported an increase in membership from 38 to 86, and Ruapehu from 31 to 46. Mr de Berry introduced the question of erecting a perniaiiént. memorial to the memory of those teachers who fell in the la'te war. The proposal met with the support of members, and it was decided to proceed with the erection of a brass memorial tablet. Permission is to be sought. from the Education Board to have it placed in the vestibule of ‘the Board’s offices in Wanganui The main business of the meeting was to consider correspondence in reply to Mr de Berry ‘s circular re teachers’ certificates. The recess committee appointed by the conference to report; on this question are Messrs do Berry (convenor), Low, Richardson, and Goldsburry. ~ Replies have already been received from Australia, and further replies are awaited from England, Canada, United States, and South Africa. Inte“res'ting replies were before the meeting from senior inspectors, un'iV'*crsit.y professors, principals of training colleges, and Institute branches. It is proposed to have the final report ready by May Ist. In *the meantime branches are considering the question under the following general pi-inciples:——-(1) Sound scholar-sh-ap; ‘(2) child lppychollogy; (3) methods of teaching; (4) organisation and management. The recess committee meets on April I(i—li7, to formula‘.’e its report ‘so the Dominion executive.
