As a result of investigations "in connection with the Ponsonby murder thepolice have found among a dense growth of blackberries in a gully in Hoive Street, three large calibre re~ volvers, a large quantity of ammunition, burglar’g jemmy, about £25 in money. Briathwaite"s privategkeys, his office keys and keys of the st:-ong—-room of the post office. Also the key of the front door of his residence and‘ cancelled postal note, known to: be part of the proceeds of the robbery, and a five pound note. Only -one five pound note was stolen from the post office. These ‘articles were in three canvas bags, two being such as banlfs use for holding coin, and a third resembling a burglal7’s sandbag. . O The detectives now conclude that Braithwaite was standing with his‘ back to the door when the burglars entered, and had finished winding the clock, when the first shot fired missed him and entered the mantelpiece. That he turned and faced the door, when he received the two shots which killed him.
