They regard the inauguration of the new service as a stepping stone to a complete wireless service between England and Australia, which can come into operdation when the necessary permission is given ‘by »the Federal Government for the establishment of high-power wireless transmitting stations in Australia. The charge between the two countries will tllen be 2/ a word, instead of at the present cable rates of 3/. The Trans-Atlantic wireless service has, it is ‘stated, been working with perfect smoothness. There have, in point of fact, been fewer complaints with regard to the nintilation of messages than by ordinary cable service. It is also claimed that transmission by wireless is slightly quicker ‘than by cable communication, in consequence; of the necessary relays of messages that have to be taken in the despatch l of cablegrams.
