A FLEET FOR CANADA.

Admiral Lord Jellieoe, in his l'l‘l.‘ol't on :1 prospective Canadian iizlvy, suggests as the first of four schemes, a float. unit of one battle cruiser. two light cruisers, six desfroyesr, and four snbinarines, with other aiixilizlry vessels and aircraft. The fourth. scheme is mm-913- for costal protection, coinprising three light. cruisers, one flotilla leader, twelve torpedo craft, and eight submarines. The cost of the first scheme is two million annually until 1927, and the e’os‘l‘; of the fourth’ £1,000,000 annually. The first scheme will provide‘ for the defence of the Pacific, but the others do not include it. A brief ouiline of Canada’s share in Imperial defence was given by Lord Jellieoe in his reports to the Australian and New Zealand Governmews. He proposed that Britain, .-\.u.<tralia, and NeV\§Zeala.nd should maintain a Far Eastern fleet for the defence of the Pacific, while Canada would contribute to naval defence in the Atlantic. “Can:lda’s share.” Lord: Jellicoe wrote. “might be that.ndces—l s.'l'r_V to provide and maintain 9. small]
