NEW ZEALAND PEAT OILS.

AREA LEASED FROM STATE. The Government has leased to New Zehland Peat Oils, Ltd., 3000 acres of swamp land at Waiharara, Nortli Auckland, for the purpose of taking out gum and other valuable products. This is part of the Kauri Gum Reserve. The term is for 21 years, from January 1, 1920, renewable for a second period of 21 years. The rental is £IOO per annum for the first period, that payable thereafter to be settled by arbitration. The land is situated from about three. miles by good level road to Kaimanmau Wharf, where there is deep water. Plant for the purpose of extracting oil and tar (w.ith charcoal residue) will be erected as soon as possible. A sawmill will also be erected to deal with the timber, of which there is a. huge quantity.
