9The annual meeting of the above Assocfation was held in Mr Loader ’s saloon last night, when there was a fully represenitativel a;‘ttendanc'e PIC? sen}.
Theelection of officers‘ for the ensuing year resulted as follows: Mr \V. H. Fookes, president, (re-elected); E. Loader, secretary; committee, Messrs Gifford, McCormick, Bond, Read, and Dashwood; treasurer, W. Howens. The balance-sheet, showing cash in hand £8 4/7, was adopted. A notice of motion to merge the Association with the Taihape Chamber of Commerce was, after some discussion defeatcd, the members deciding to carry on the Association on the same lines as heretofore.
The question of observing a halfholidoy on Thursday when a public holiday occurs in the same Week was debated and it was decided: “That if a public holiday foecuns during the week the usual Thursday half-holiday will be observed in addition, with the exception of Christmas‘ and New Year week and the Thursday before Good Friday.
An effort is to be made to induce all shopkeepers to link up with the Association, the annual subscription to which is 15/. It was decided that all shops will close at 12 o’clock on St. Patrick’s Day, and also at 12,‘as usual, on the» following day (Thursday).
After discussion, it was decided to write to the Postal Department with reference to carrying mails ‘on ‘the midnight express to and from fiuckland.
