ARAMOHO SENSATION.
K ' A WOMAN DROWNED. PLUCKY RESCUE ATTEMPT FAILS. V WANGANUI, Feb. 13. Sensational circumstances surrounded the death of Winnie Melville, aged 38 years, who was drown|ed in the river at Aramoho yesterday.‘ The deceased was a passenger by the morning train from Greatford, and while it was crossing the Aramoho Bridge she ‘either jumped or fell into the river beneath. The de ‘ceased’s cries for help drew the attention of a. good many people in the locality, but she disafipeared before assistance could be rendered. - A plucky attempt at rescue was made by a. boy named Rnmsbottoni. son of the stationmaster at Aramoho. He swam to the scene, but his ef~ fort was in vain and he was subsequently picked up much exhausted -by a rescue boat. - The parents of the deceased reside at Temuka, and up to Christmas she was employed as a barmaid at the Rutland Hotel. As the result" of at nervous breakdown she was a. spat-iei‘l't at the hospital and on being dis-t charged Went t.o live in’ the country, to recuperate. The police Searched for the body yesterday, but so far it hads not been recovered.
